Vineyard Stats

A variety of clones were chosen to bring out different expressions of our site. The Pinot Noir clones we planted include the Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777, UCD 5 and Abel. The Abel clone is the legendary offspring of a single vine cutting illegally brought to New Zealand in a traveler’s gumboot from what is thought to be Burgundy’s finest estate, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Our Riesling clones are GM110 and the Drumlin selection, sourced from Alan Brady’s expressive vineyard in Gibbston Valley. Virus free rootstock was chosen, including 101.14, Riparia Gloire and Schwarzmann.

Soils are predominantly Adgour loam over schist and quartz based alluvial gravels. Elevation is 250m, annual rainfall around 450mm, GDD 1100.
